What is manual therapy?

Manual therapy is the ‘hands-on’ treatment part used in the management of disorders affecting the musculoskeletal and nervous systems. At Game Day Physiotherapy in Victoria, we prioritize both hands-on manual therapy and an active rehab approach, evenly.

A wide variety of treatments fall under the manual therapy umbrella and these techniques can be divided into two categories: soft tissue and joint. During soft tissue work, the physiotherapist applies a variety of pressure into different direction to specific muscles. This technique will help with improving the circulation and function to the body area which will benefit the healing process of the tissue. During joint techniques, the physiotherapist can use gentle traction, mobilization, or a manipulation by using measured movements to mobilize joints and improve flexibility.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding manual therapy, get in touch with one of our physiotherapists by clicking on the contact form or send us an ema
